ENG 1 SEAFARER MEDICAL

£115

In order to work at sea, you must have an appropriate seafarer medical fitness certificate. This is because medical conditions that are easily treated on land can be much more difficult to manage at sea, where qualified help can be days away. A seafarer medical certificate confirms you are fit to perform your duties at sea.

You need an ENG 1 certificate if you’re any of the following:

  • a seafarer

  • in charge of a ship

  • serving on a merchant ship or yacht

If you remain unsure about which type of seafarer medical you need, further information can be found on the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) website here.

If you are concerned about a medical condition and how it might affect your chance of obtaining the ENG 1 certificate, please consult the Merchant Shipping Notice (MSN) document 1886 here. This is a comprehensive guide to how various medical issues are dealt with.

Before you attend, you will be asked to fill in a medical questionnaire. A link to this will be emailed to you when you book an appointment. Please ensure this is completed prior to your medical.

Please read the FAQ section below to ensure you are fully prepared before your appointment. If you have any further questions, please contact me.
